Fills in Many of Ho's Gaps

I have been researching Vietnamese history since 1964 and have read everything published about Ho. Ms Quinn-Judge's book has COMPLETELY new information. I am not sure some in Hanoi will be happy to read some of it but as more and more Vietnamese are moving (inching along?) away more and more from strict communism and central planning to more democracy and free-markets, I think they should be pleased to know Ho was more of a nationalist than a communist and more a free thinker than tied down to one ideology. This is a fantastic book!

An essential addition to Duiker and Marr.

Ho Chi Minh remains an enigmatic figure, in no small part because he planned it that way. Duiker's "(HCM)...A Life", Marr's "Vietnam 1945", and Bartholomew-Feis' "The OSS and Ho Chi Minh" have all stripped away some of the mystery, but blank spaces remain. Mrs. Quinn-Judge steps into the fray to drop some countervailing facts that challenge some of those author's judgments. One is left wondering if Ho Chi Minh was really a Communist Internationalist, or a Vietnamese Nationalist, or a man for all seasons, capable of telling everyone exactly what they wanted to hear. Her points are well made. Highly recommended for those interested enough to form their own judgments.
